The StaffLocated in Bellingham, WA, Bellingham Surgery Center specializes in one-day surgery. We have 4 operating rooms and an eight-bed recovery room. We are connected to the community medical record and the community PAC digital imaging system. Bellingham Surgery Center was opened in 1986 by a group of surgeons. From 1995 to 1999, Bellingham Surgery Center was owned by Whatcom Medical Bureau (now Regence). In 1999, Symbion Ambulatory Resource Centers acquired Bellingham Surgery Center. Symbion develops, acquires, operates and manages ambulatory facilities in partnership with physicians and physician groups, practice management companies, payers, hospitals and hospital networks.
While all Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Washington State are required to be Medicare Certified, we are the only accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center in Bellingham. BSC is accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO); the same agency that reviews hospitals for quality of care.
We participate in Symbion’s internal monitoring and tracking systems on patient care, safety, operations, quality improvement and patient satisfaction. We also participate externally by benchmarking on a national level through FASA (Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association), and, our quality program is registered with the State of Washington, validating that quality is continuously monitored and improved. In addition, we participate in a national safety program that encourages our staff, physician, and you to “Speak Out” if you have questions or concerns about safety.
Every patient leaves with a “Thank-you!” card and a satisfaction survey. Our patient satisfaction results are benchmarked against over 60 other ambulatory surgery centers. We receive lots of cards and notes saying how great the care was.
With several employees who were here when Bellingham Surgery Center opened in 1986 and the experienced staff hired over the years we can truly say that we are the only ASC in Bellingham with over 20 years of experience. Licensed staff meet all the licensure standards to assure competency and quality. Staff maintain skill levels with participation in yearly educational programs. The Registered Nurse staff maintain advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) training.
